The District Prosecutor’s Office in Pruszków has filed an indictment against five foreign nationals accused of gang rape and a sixth individual charged with aiding in the crime.
The attack occurred one evening in July last year as a young Polish student was allegedly assaulted after taking a ride home with a lone man she had met at a nightclub.
“The District Prosecutor’s Office in Pruszków directed the indictment against five suspects of rape and one suspect of helping in rape on the night of July 28, 2024, in an indefinite place during a car journey on the Warsaw -Janki route,” said spokesperson Piotr Antoni Skiba.
He further confirmed that the suspects are all citizens of a Latin American country. They are legally residing in Poland, employed, and between the ages of 20 and 30. As RMF24 reported, if convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison.
The incident traces back to the early hours of July 28, when the 20-year-old woman had been enjoying a night out at a club in Warsaw. During the course of the evening, she met a man who introduced himself as a Spaniard.
Later that morning, when she exited the club, she accepted his offer to drive her home. However, upon entering the car, she found herself among six men. At some point during the journey, she lost consciousness and later awoke in Janki, outside of Warsaw, in a state of distress.
A bus driver discovered the young woman at a bus stop, where she recounted her ordeal before being taken to a hospital.
Based on initial statements, she recalled that when she regained consciousness inside the vehicle, four men remained present, all of them foreigners. Preliminary testimonies indicate that she was touched inappropriately and assaulted. At one point, when one of the suspects exited the car, she managed to strike another man and escape.
Investigators gathered evidence, including surveillance footage from the club where the victim met the alleged perpetrators, toxicology reports, and DNA tests that led to the indictments.
