A 29-year-old Ukrainian man has been deported from Poland and banned from entering the Schengen Area for 10 years after posting online threats of arson in response to the withdrawal of refugee benefits.
The Border Guard confirmed on Sunday that officers had “forcibly escorted and extradited to Ukraine a 29-year-old man detained by Warsaw police after he threatened to set himself on fire in videos posted online.”
The agency added: “The foreigner was banned from entering Poland and the Schengen Area for 10 years.” Footage of the deportation was published online by both the Border Guard and Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński.
Kierwiński wrote on X: “There is also the end of the story: A Ukrainian citizen who threatened to set fires in videos posted on the internet was arrested by the officers. The Border Guard forcibly brought and deported him to Ukraine.”

The man was first detained on Friday in Warsaw’s Praga Południe district after officers from the Criminal Terror and Homicide Department tracked him down. He had posted videos on TikTok threatening to burn houses if the “800 plus” program was not reinstated. The account where the video appeared has since been deleted.
Prosecutors said the 29-year-old was to face charges under Article 255 of the Penal Code, relating to public incitement to commit a crime. Kierwiński confirmed before the weekend that police were working with the Border Guard to prepare a deportation request, which has now been executed.
The controversy comes after President Karol Nawrocki vetoed legislation introduced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s liberal coalition government that would have prolonged financial assistance to unemployed Ukrainian refugees, including the “800 plus” child benefit.
