David Pressman, the otherwise very vocal U.S. ambassador to Budapest, had nothing to say about the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, writes Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet.
While a number of public figures spoke out and expressed their condolences for the attempted assassination of the former U.S. president; however, Pressman did not speak out, nor did he issue a statement, but instead remained silent.
On Monday, Magyar Nemzet contacted the U.S. Embassy in Budapest to get the ambassador to speak about the issue. We wanted to know what Pressman’s position is on the terrible assassination attempt and when they intend to issue at least a statement.
After all, Pressman has spoken out on a number of important political issues in Hungary recently, whether he needed to or not, often at the risk of his positions serving as a severe form of interference in Hungarian domestic politics.
He has, for example, spoken out for gay rights, for press freedom, which he believes is being violated in Hungary, and has even made a so-called anti-corruption tour of the countryside and met with influencers organizing protests.
However, now that an assassination attempt has been made against the former U.S. president, the Republican Party’s presidential candidate who is running against Pressman’s boss, Joe Biden, Pressman has refused to speak out against this atrocious act of violence.
David Pressman’s press office responded to our questions by saying: “We refer you to President Joe Biden’s address to the American nation.”
Magyar Nemzet writes, “We were hoping for sympathy from the ambassador, but it was in vain.”
