Shocking surveillance footage from Berlin’s Köpenick neighborhood showed a man in a black hooded jacket shooting at an employee of a kebab shop on Bahnhof Street.
In the video, the man can be seen pulling out a pistol and shooting a victim through the storefront window. He pulls out a pistol and shoots through the window, but the employee in the footage was actually able to duck in time to avoid being shot. However, another man outside the frame was shot in the stomach.
There is currently a large-scale manhunt underway in Berlin but so far, the suspect has not been found.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning, resulted in the victim suffering stomach wounds. Witnesses say there was no argument before the shots were fired.
The shooter calmly walked away from the scene, got to the other side, and then fired at the restaurant again. Police arrived and cordoned the area off while medical services worked on the gunshot victim.
Police say the case may be a “rampage” shooting, but so far have not released any clear motive.
Firearm crime has exploded in Berlin in recent years, mainly due to mass immigration.
The police already recorded a new record for shootings last year. An internal police report states: “For the year 2023, there was an increase of 44 cases to 704 cases, the highest number of cases in a long-term comparison for the use of firearms overall ever recorded.”
“The use of firearms is steadily increasing,” said Benjamin Jendro, spokesman for the Berlin police union, in September.
The police registered almost 800 cases of firearms being used in 2023. “We actually experience a new all-time high in Berlin every year,” said Jendro.
