International cooperation between services and operational activities by officers from the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Headquarters’ Criminal Division led to the arrest of a 43-year-old Turkish citizen wanted for violent crimes.
The suspect, a member of the Istanbul mafia, had been under an Interpol Red Notice and linked to murders, kidnappings, and armed attacks on individuals in Istanbul. He has been placed in preventive custody for three months.

Police officers from the Targeted Search Team of the Search and Identification Department of the Warsaw Police Headquarters are responsible for tracking down the most dangerous criminals, according to a police website.
The same officers determined that the 43-year-old who had arrived in Warsaw was wanted by Turkish law enforcement. The cooperation between Warsaw police officers, officers from the Central Anticorruption Bureau, and international agencies proved crucial.
Warsaw police officers, with the support of the Independent Counter-Terrorism Police Unit, detained the man in front of a restaurant on Żurawia Street. Special security procedures were implemented due to the possibility that the man was armed and attempting to escape at all costs.
Police found a firearm with a loaded round in the chamber and 26 rounds of ammunition on the Turkish citizen. He was then taken to the police station on Wilcza Street. Investigators determined that he had arrived in Poland from Western Europe several days earlier.
Criminal investigators from the city’s Department for Combating Crimes Against Life and Health were involved in this case. These same officers collected evidence regarding the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, the origin of which is being verified by investigators.
The files were transferred to the Warsaw Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office, where the 43-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without the required permit.

It remains unclear how the man made his way into Poland, and whether he entered the country legally or illegaly.
