‘We will have to live with this toad’ – Ukrainian analyst says PM Orbán will win national elections and ‘pro-European pollsters’ are not credible

The Ukrainian analyst said Orbán could have been "demolished" if Ukrainian psychological operations had been launched in time

Ukrainian political analyst Bogdan Popov, who is sharply opposed to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has expressed deep skepticism regarding recent opinion polls that show the Tisza Party leading against Hungary’s governing conservative parties. Consequently, he sees little chance for Péter Magyar and his supporters to defeat the Fidesz–KDNP alliance in the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12.

Popov suggests that instead of relying on an opposition victory, Ukraine could have engaged in systemic efforts to unseat the Hungarian prime minister for victory. However, he said he does not believe this has occurred.

“To be honest, my forecast is not very encouraging. I do not believe that any opposition force can win in Hungary. That is, if there was systematic work on the demolition of Orbán, we could have demolished him with the forces of Ukrainian information and psychological special units. But since, as far as I know, there is no systematic work, most likely we will have to live with this toad in the head of Hungary,” said Popov.

The analyst dismisses polls showing an advantage for Péter Magyar, claiming that surveys from “pro-European pollsters” are unreliable, a belief that many other analysts have noted, citing previous results from these polling agencies that were up to 20 points off when the final national election results were announced. He argues that the core of Orbán’s electoral base remains extremely stable and difficult to disrupt.

“And in fact, my prediction is quite pessimistic. I do not believe in the victory of any opposition forces in Hungary, because we look at the polls of all sorts of pro-European pollsters who get grants from liberals, which claim (the Tisza party) is now demolishing Orbán, and so on. In fact, the base of Orbán’s electorate there is like iron, and it is very difficult to knock it down,” he said.

This video emerged following previous threats from a Ukrainian neo-Nazi major who was decorated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. That individual had earlier envisioned invading Hungary and hunting down Viktor Orbán. This figure, Yevhen Karas, was the former leader of the neo-Nazi organization known as the C14 group.

There have been several instances of Ukrainian public figures threatening Hungary and its prime minister, including when he was added to an infamous ultra-nationalist kill list.

As reported by Hirado.hu and summarized by Index, Bohdan Cservak, the first deputy chairman of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine and head of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, also shared rather threatening views on Facebook. He wrote that “Times change, but the independent Ukraine, which is fighting a bloody war with Moscow, will never again allow Hungary to humiliate Ukrainians. And for the crimes committed, retaliation will inevitably follow.”
