“We are on the right path. All EU politicians are conscious that such inequalities cannot exist. It is unfair,” Wojciechowski told Polskie Radio 3.
The commissioner stated that different proposals on how to equalize these payments will be introduced but the ultimate decision will come down to both the European Parliament and the European Council.
“Inequalities in the form of unequal direct payments need to be ended as soon as possible,” he emphasized.
He explained that the differences in payments are huge and partially stem from historical reasons, but also from discriminatory conditions in accepting new states into the EU. The current European Commission is working on equalizing those issues.
