The whole world was outraged when in 2001 the Taliban and then Islamic state destroyed treasured cultural monuments and world heritage objects they considered to be in contradiction to their faith. Their acts were rightly called barbarism that was alien to the principles of our civilization.
But today the children of the ’68 generation are doing the same. They are defiling and destroying monuments at an alarming rate, but this time with little pushback from the world media.
In Bristol, a wild mob took down and threw into the harbor a statue of Edward Colston, a 17th century merchant who made much of his money from the slave trade, but who also made a big contribution to philanthropy and funded care homes for the poor.
