After a video went viral of three men involved in an attack on hospital staff on New Year’s Eve in Berlin, police have revealed that it was a trio of Serbian brothers involved in the attack.
The video from a surveillance camera shows how the men first beat a doctor unconscious and then attacked a nurse.
According to police, the three brothers attacked the staff of the SANA emergency clinic in Berlin-Lichtenberg because they were waiting too long and believed they were entitled to preferential treatment.
Both the doctor and the nurse suffered head injuries. According to the police report, one of the brothers injured his hand during the attack. The brothers were allegedly intoxicated during the attack and started an argument with the hospital staff shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Jan. 1.
The three brothers were detained by police until they sobered up in a jail cell.
The police are now investigating the assault on law enforcement officers, obstruction of persons providing assistance, threats, and grievous bodily harm.
With a substantial increase in police this year, Berlin did not experience the scale of rioting that plagued it last year. However, the city had by no means a peaceful New Year. The police arrested 390 people and recorded 54 injuries during a night of violence and attacks on police and rescue vehicles.
