In a video posted to social media, a German woman claimed that the attack in Munich by an Afghan migrant who killed two people and injured 34 was potentially due to vitamin D deficiency and “toxic masculinity.” She urged voters not to vote for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and praised diversity.

“Simply because it needs to be said again. The act in Munich today should in no way incite you to vote for the AfD or the CDU,” said the woman. She said regarding the Afghan attacker, “We are talking about a 24-year-old man who fled the war. I also remember some stupid thoughts when I was 24. And then when you’re confronted with a German winter, where it’s not so unusual to have depression because you don’t get enough sun because you’re not used to it.

She then goes on to blame winter depression due to low vitamin D levels, a lack of English and Afghan-language support, and a lack of therapy due to “toxic masculinity.”

I don’t want to excuse what he has done, but it has been statistically proven that more people take their own lives in winter because the low vitamin D level that you have makes depression much, much worse. This man has probably never been helped by the fact that no one could speak Afghan or English well enough to help him get therapy or anything else. Or maybe his toxic masculinity didn’t give him the opportunity to have therapy for something as traumatic as war,” said the woman.

She then praises diversity while acknowledging the victims of the attack.

I’m just incredibly sorry and in absolute solidarity with those affected. But let’s not think now. That’s why all foreigners have to leave. That’s rubbish. Diversity is a great and beautiful thing.”

The 24-year-old Afghan Farhad N. reportedly had 100,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram before the attack and routinely showed off his lifestyle as a bodybuilder with expensive watches and cars. Although his asylum application was initially rejected, he was allowed to stay as a “tolerated” migrant and was legally working.

During the attack, 2-year-old Hafsa lost her life, along with her mother, Amel. Amel was at the Ver.di protest protesting for higher wages in the public sector.

Prosecutors now believe the man had an Islamic motive due to his statements before and after the attack.
