Michał Kamiński, deputy speaker of Poland’s Senate and member of Third Way, had some shocking statements when asked about who would win Poland’s presidential election in May.

In Kamiński’s opinion, “If the second round of elections is constructed around a conventional referendum ‘for’ or ‘against’ the government, the fate of Rafał Trzaskowski (KO) will be regrettable,” writes Do Rzeczy. He further stated that Trzaskowski’s loss will fall squarely on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his Civic Platform.

The deputy speaker and former ECR chairman said the current Tusk-led government is simply not popular, and “it will be very difficult to build a winning strategy around such an axis.”

He also commented on the fate of current government-led cases against the opposition. “If Karol Nawrocki becomes president, no PiS member will be held accountable for his thefts and crimes. They will laugh at us all. Because Karol Nawrocki will certainly acquit and pardon, he will do what Duda did with Wąsik and Kamiński,” he argued.

According to wPolityce, Kamiński also told  TVN24: “My intuition tells me that Nawrocki is the favourite in these elections today,” claiming he harbored “a big contradiction between his heart and intuition.”

All eyes will be on first-round voting in the election, set to take place on May 18. Some polls have shown that Warsaw’s liberal mayor will not be going up against the PiS candidate Karol Nawrocki but against Sławomir Mentzen, chairman of the libertarian New Hope party and presidential candidate for the Confederation.
