The MSWiA hospital in Krakow fell victim to a cyberattack, but authorities have assured that the situation is under control and that patient safety remains uncompromised, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski, as reported by Salon24.

Currently, intensive actions are underway aimed at securing the facility and identifying the perpetrators. Although the situation is serious, there is no threat to the life and health of patients.

No details were provided about the nature of the attack or the extent of the damage caused, but assurances were given that emergency procedures had been implemented to avoid putting patients at risk.

“The services responsible for cybersecurity, including CERT Polska, the e-Health Center and the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime, are working to support the facility in quickly returning to normal functioning,” said Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski on the X platform. “The state services are conducting coordinated operational activities to identify the attackers,” he added.

It has not yet been revealed whether the incident was caused by cybercriminals acting for profit or hackers linked to state-owned cyber groups.

Such attacks on medical facilities can have serious consequences: from loss of access to patient records to disruption of systems necessary for the hospital to operate.

The case of the Krakow MSWiA hospital is part of a growing trend of attacks on public institutions, including medical facilities, which are often targeted by cybercriminals due to the sensitive data they store.
