A new Danish Defense Intelligence (FE) claims that Russia will have the capabilities to attack Europe within five years. The report also claims that it will have the military capabilities to attack a neighboring country within six months.

The Danish intelligence report claims that once the war in Ukraine ends, Russia will begin arming itself against NATO, or more precisely, it will continue the comprehensive modernization and capability building that began in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine.

It also notes that “the Russian military and military industry have undergone significant restructuring and increased combat capabilities.”

According to Ukrainska Pravda, the Danish report claims that within six months, Russia forces will have the capabilities to attack a neighboring, neutral country and that within two years, “they will even pose a threat to a smaller NATO member state, such as the Baltic states, in the form of a local war.

However, within five years, Russia’s military could pose a threat to all of Europe if the United States military did not intervene on behalf of Europe, according to the Danish report.

The report notes that Danish intelligence does not necessarily expect Russia to attack but that it will possess these capabilities, especially if European modernization projects do not keep up.

Moscow has repeatedly denied claims it ever plans to attack NATO.

Similar claims about Russia have been made in the past, and while the Danish report may be a real attempt to predict Russia’s moves in the future, other reports, such as those seen in Germany, appear more questionable. Last year, a classified military exercise was “leaked” to Bild newspaper claiming that Russia could attack Germany within weeks.

As reported by Remix News, “in this Bundeswehr scenario, escalation would begin within weeks. The secret ‘scenario’ obtained by Bild would begin in February 2024 with the deployment of hundreds of thousands of NATO troops, culminating in a war that would break out in the summer of 2025.”

Hungarian commentator Zsolt Bayer, wrote a response to the report, describing it as “obvious lies, lunacy, delusion,” saying that if it were actually true, “it would mean nothing less than a third World War and the end of mankind.”

Such reports could also serve to buoy support from a war-weary European public who has increasingly lost its desire to support Ukraine in its war against Russia. At the same time, military leaders and weapons manufacturers stand to benefit from increased weapons sales.
