Barcelona police are investigating the death of a man in Barcelona’s Bon Pastor neighborhood following a violent incident on a public street on Sunday, April 5, that left one Moroccan migrant dead and another person under arrest.
The incident, first reported by El Caso, took place at around 2:00 p.m. when a call to emergency services alerted police to a man with serious stab wounds on Paseo de Mollerussa, at number 10, at the junction with Calle de Sas in the Sant Andreu district.
Several units of the Medical Emergency System (SEM) responded, but paramedics were unable to revive the man, who died at the scene.
According to initial information, the deceased man, of Moroccan origin, had allegedly attempted to steal a gold chain from the 66-year-old, who was moving in a wheelchair, thus taking advantage of his vulnerable situation. The wheelchair user, upon realizing what was happening, reportedly used a knife to defend himself, inflicting the injuries that proved fatal.

Officers from the Mossos d’Esquadra attended simultaneously and arrested a 66-year-old man believed to be responsible for the fatal attack. The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) has taken over the case, and the 66-year-old is under investigation for homicide. It remains unclear whether a self-defense legal protection will prevail in his case.
It also remains unclear if the Moroccan man had prior criminal arrests on his record.
Footage of the aftermath of the incident was widely shared on social media, which showed emergency services attempting to resuscitate the victim. The man died at the scene.
