An Afghan migrant who was convicted in Sweden of raping a child at knifepoint but avoided prison because of his age has now been arrested again on suspicion of committing the same crime, this time with what prosecutors believe to have been a firearm.

Irshad Ahmad was convicted in July 2024 for the aggravated rape of a 13-year-old girl in Malmö, as well as for offensive photography, child pornography, and assault. Despite the severity of the crimes, he did not receive a prison sentence because he was registered as being only 15 years old at the time. Instead, the court sentenced him to ten months of youth care.

Now, Ahmad is once again under investigation, suspected of having raped another minor girl in November 2025.

The earlier conviction stemmed from an incident in February 2024 at Nydalatorget in Malmö, where two teenage boys raped a 13-year-old girl. During the attack, the boys demanded that the girl perform oral sex. When she refused, they escalated the situation by threatening her with knives.

“Then he said this: ‘I’m going to stab you, and no one can hear you here. I’m going to leave you here to die,'” the girl said during a police interrogation, as cited by the Samnytt news outlet.

She succumbed under duress, and the boys filmed the attack — footage that was used to confirm their guilt, in addition to semen traces at the scene, according to Sydsvenskan.

Despite the threats, the violence, and the age of the victim, Ahmad avoided prison. He resided at a special youth facility between September 2024 and March 2025, only to reoffend months after being discharged.

The Afghan-born rapist was granted a residence permit along with his parents in 2017, and later became a Swedish citizen in 2022, meaning he cannot be deported for his crimes, even once he has turned 18.

The latest alleged assault took place on Nov. 25, 2025, according to the arrest warrant.

In addition to the new rape charge, Ahmad is also suspected of assault in court, robbery, and aggravated weapons offenses.

“When it comes to the weapons crime and the rape of children, they are linked,” District Prosecutor Ludvig Olsson told Samnytt. “The suspicion is that this sexual assault was committed under some form of threat of a weapon.”

“I can’t say exactly what type of weapon it is. It is suspected to have been some kind of firearm,” he said.
