After speaking at the United Nations yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump has come out swinging, indicating that Ukraine could win back all territory lost to Russia and underlining that the Russian economy has fallen off a cliff fighting this war.
“I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form. With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
While many war hawks will celebrate his about face, it is clear that his rhetoric is a clear departure of his previous stance focused on ending the war quickly and restoring peace between Ukraine and Russia.
He also took a jab at Putin and Moscow’s pride as a military power, saying “Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years a War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win.”

Trump also assured that the U.S. “will continue to supply weapons to NATO for NATO to do what they want with them.”
Speaking at the U.N. later in the day, he reiterated how shocked he was that the war in Ukraine was still going on and that it was not easily ended. “It was supposed to be just a quick little skirmish. It’s not making Russia look good, it’s making them look bad,” he said.
Notably, Russia has suffered incredibly high casualties during the war, which has dragged on for three and a half years. Russia’s progress has certainly slowed during its summer offensive, as Ukraine utilizes drones and other precision weapons to make up for its manpower shortage. Furthermore, Ukraine’s increased strikes on Russia’s oil and gas refineries are dramatically reducing the country’s output and harming its ability to finance the war.
During his speech, the U.S. president also did not hold back against other countries, taking direct aim at the majority of the same NATO allies, saying, “Your countries are going to hell. In America, we’ve taken bold action to swiftly shut down uncontrolled migration. Once we started detaining and deporting everyone who crossed the border and removing illegal aliens from the United States, they simply stopped coming. They’re not coming anymore.”
“The entire globalist concept of asking successful, industrialized nations to inflict pain on themselves, and radically disrupt their entire societies, must be rejected completely and totally,” he added.
He also called climate change “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world,” adding, “All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons were wrong (…) If you don’t get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail.”
Turning back to Ukraine, Trump nailed China and India as “the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil.” However, POTUS did not excuse NATO countries still buying Russian energy as well. “I found out about (this) two weeks ago, and I wasn’t happy. Think of it, they’re funding the war against themselves, ” he said, calling this reality “embarrassing.”
Reiterating that “they have to immediately cease all energy purchases from Russia. Otherwise, we’re all wasting a lot of time,” Trump said he would be discussing this with his European allies that day.
Hungary, and Slovakia, have been vocal about their resistance to switching away from Russian oil, Asked specifically about Hungary on this front, Trump indicated he may have a personal call with his “friend” Orbán to change his mind, Telex reports.
However, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who was also present at the UN General Assembly, told press: “We fully support the U.S. president’s efforts for peace. However, we cannot change the reality of our geographical location.”
Concluding his speech with a call to follow the American example, especially leading up to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, Trump warned again against the dangers of green energy policies and rampant migration.
“You need strong borders and traditional energy sources if you are going to be great again,” he told those gathered at the UN.
President Trump also noted the status of Christianity, the principles upon which the U.S. was originally founded, as the most persecuted religion today.
“Let us defend free speech and free expression. Let us protect religious liberty, including for the most persecuted religion on the planet today. It’s called Christianity. And let us safeguard our sovereignty and cherish qualities that have made each of our nations so special, incredible, and extraordinary.”
In a sit-down with UN head, Oliveira Guterres, Trump made a surprising show of support for an institution he, and other U.S. leaders, have often butted heads with. “Our country is behind the United Nations 100%. (…) I may disagree with it sometimes, but I am so behind it because the potential for peace at this institution is so great,” he told Guterres, thanking him for the “warm treatment” he and those accompanying him had received.
