Reborn Poland is one hundred years old

250,000 people took to Warsaw’s streets to celebrate Polish independence. In what was called the largest Independence March in Polish history, Poles proudly walked through Warsaw’s center waving thousands of white and red flags.

President Andrzej Duda opened the March with a speech. In it, referring to the multitude of gathered flags, he declared that “this is our state flag, our national, red and white flag. It will never just be white and it will never just be red ever again.”

Throughout the world, famous buildings and monuments were lit up in the colors of the Polish flag. 

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Burj Khalifa turned white and red: “For the first time in history, the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa shone white and red on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Polish independence!” writes the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Polish Embassy in Vilnius posted a picture in which Vilnius’ Three Crosses were lit in Polish colors: “The symbol of Vilnius – the Three Crosses – in Polish colors!”

In New York’s Time Square, the Polish – Slavic Federal Credit Union initiated an ad in which the Polish flag covered the NASDAQ building. “The 100th Anniversary of Poland’s Restoration to Independence” were written across the ad.

US President Donald Trump also wished Poland all the best on the occasion of the anniversary: “Poland, a great country – Congratulations on the 100th Anniversary of your Independence. I will never forget my time there!”
