Russian soldiers have discovered miniature new explosive devices in the Kursk region, which have been scattered across the countryside by the Ukrainians. According to the Russians, the tiny explosive device is even worse than the brutal PFM-1 miniature mines developed by the Russians.
Videos of the new weapon are appearing on social media. There are claims that these miniature mines were developed by the Ukrainians, but they also have been appearing around the same time that the United States said it would authorize Ukraine to use U.S. mines on the battlefield, a decision made by President Joe Biden shortly before leaving office.
The mines are believed to be dropped from drones in large numbers across the battlefield. These miniature mines are not designed to kill someone, but instead leave them with terrible injuries, often rendering the victim permanently maimed.
Several different-looking mines can be discovered in the footage circulating on the internet, but according to Russian soldiers, all of them are “more effective” than the PFM-1. It is unclear how many Russians have already been wounded or killed by the devices.
One mine looks like a ball of grass and Russian soldiers say it is virtually impossible to find in a field.
Although the mines dropped by the Ukrainians are supposedly equipped with batteries that deactivate them after a certain amount of time, they also pose a significant risk to civilians.
The Soviet-made PFM-1 is a similar device that also enjoys a cruel reputation: the small, few-gram infantry mine is so sensitive that it explodes at the slightest touch, but it only causes fatal injuries in very few cases. Another problem is that the explosive container does not contain metal but is instead made out of plastic, so it is unnoticeable with a metal detector.
