The Polish Armed Forces are being forced to stay on high alert, with continuous threats along the country’s border from the Russian military conducting attacks on Ukraine.

“Due to the activity of the Russian Federation’s long-range aviation, which conducts strikes on the territory of Ukraine – including with the use of hypersonic missiles – aircraft of the Air Force and allied aviation operate in Polish airspace,” the Operational Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces (DORSZ) reported on X early Thursday morning.

All available forces and resources were mobilized, the post stressed. “Duty fighter pairs were scrambled, and air defense and radar reconnaissance systems reached the highest state of readiness.”

“The actions taken are aimed at guaranteeing the security of the territory of the Republic of Poland and its citizens, in particular in regions bordering areas affected by military operations,” they wrote.

DORSZ last scrambled its fighter jets on the night of Aug. 18 to 19. And in this most recent incident, although confrontation was avoided, the Polish Armed Forces assured civilians that it will “remain in constant readiness to respond and is constantly monitoring the development of the situation.”

After Putin’s meeting with Trump last Friday in D.C., Russia has launched a wave of massive aerial attacks across Ukrainian territory, killing 15 and injuring 76, according to the Kyiv Independent. The portal also cites UN reports, which show the number of civilian deaths in July from Russian attacks to be the highest since May 2022.
