‘Immigration is the biggest safety risk for our children in schools’ – German prosecutor investigates 18 cases of massive violence in migrant-heavy Cottbus school

Another migrant-heavy German school turns into a hunting ground for targeted students, with one father who pulled his children out saying the names of the attackers were "Ali, Mohammed and Ahmed"

Growing violence in German schools is an issue facing the entire country, in large part due to mass immigration. Now, after the Cottbus public prosecutor’s office launched an investigation into 18 specific cases of serious violence in the migrant-dominated Regine Hildebrandt Primary School in the south of Cottbus, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) is speaking out against the violence.

The revelation that so many criminal investigations are ongoing at just one school was shared by Brandenburg’s Interior Minister René Wilke on Wednesday during the Interior Committee of the Brandenburg State Parliament. There are also seven additional investigations pending before the police.

The school has drawn national attention due to the levels of violence being seen inside, with parents writing an open letter seeking help from authorities as their children become targets. In the letter, which was first reported on by German news outlet Junge Freiheit, the parents reported physical attacks with serious injuries, including one student who suffered a concussion. In addition, students were using pepper spray, as well as fighting with kicks and punches.

A father at the Regine Hildebrandt Primary School told Junge Freiheit that there were “at least two to three attacks” a week before he took his children out of school. He said that the names of the perpetrators were “for example, Ali, Mohammed, and Ahmed.”

The data show that 43 percent of students at Regine Hildebrandt Elementary School have a migration background.

Dennis Hohloch, an Alternative for Germany (AfD) politician, said in response: “Immigration is the biggest problem, the biggest safety risk for our children in our schools. We had 3,209 violent offenses at our schools in 2024. If you take the 190 school days a year, that’s 17 violent offenses a day. This figure is 20% higher than 4 years ago. Violence in schools, especially here in Brandenburg, can no longer be minimized or glossed over, even if the SPD and the Ministry of Education keep trying.”

He added that his party’s solutions include: “First and foremost, we would like to lower the age of criminal liability to 12 years. We will enforce the principle of German before regular schooling. We will implement migration caps at our schools. We will ban indoctrination by law. We will return to the principle of performance in accordance with the principle of encouraging rather than demanding and will once again focus on teaching basic cultural skills.”

While the AfD is the top polling party in Brandenburg by a large margin, the party is still far from power. Meanwhile, the chaos is only growing in the school system.

The interior minister described a serious crisis in the school and announced that “these acts would also have consequences very quickly.” However, what consequences remain to be seen, as under current laws, minors cannot be charged as adults, and in many cases, very little can be done criminally. While transferring them to other schools is possible, those schools will then face the same problems.

The minister affirmed that the list of criminal offenses is “very, very long and varied.” He described dangerous bodily harm, threats, insults, and coercion. Wilke described “aggressiveness and willingness to use violence as a prominent dimension.”

Now, in response to the violence, a security team has begun patrolling the school at a cost to taxpayers. In addition, police are conducting “threat” interviews with known perpetrators. Authorities are also meeting with Cottbus Mayor Tobias Schick (SPD).

The mayor, who belongs to the far-left SPD, which has been a prominent proponent of mass immigration, said during a press conference in August 2025 that the problem is a consequence “of partly unregulated, partly uncontrolled immigration in recent years.”

This sentiment has also been echoed by other left-wing politicians across Germany when the result of their own policies, and the policy of their own parties, begins to bear down on the populace.

This situation is also hardly unique to Cottbus, as the issue is hitting German schools across the country, including major cities like Berlin. Approximately 40 percent of all violence in German schools is committed by foreigners; however, how much of the remaining 60 percent is committed by Germans with a migration background is not reported.
