The official crime statistics for Germany have now been released for 2025, and they show a continued “upward trend” in the proportion of non-German suspects, particularly in serious and violent crime categories like murder, rape, and robbery.
The data, from the PKS 2025, published by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), shows that among the most serious crimes, migrants are vastly overrepresented despite making up 15 percent of the population.
Violent crimes and murder
Foreigners are responsible for 41 percent of all violent crimes and 38 percent of all murders. In certain cities like Berlin, a record number of shots were fired in 2025, and the murder rate has been steadily rising, with politicians and experts pointing to a Wild West atmosphere, especially when factoring in the role of foreign clans battling over turf and drug trafficking.
In addition, the statistics show that 29,000 knife-related crimes are committed every year in Germany, amounting to 80 per day. For murder and manslaughter cases, a knife is used in approximately 4 out of 10 such crimes.
Sexual crimes
When it comes to sexual offenses, foreigners are responsible for 36 percent of all such crimes, which includes rape but also less serious crimes such as the distribution of pornography. However, this figure rises to 39.1 percent when only serious sexual crimes are counted, including only rape and sexual assault.
Furthermore, the statistics show that rape has risen 72 percent since 2018, driven by mass immigration, which has led to a sharp deterioration in the safety of German women. In addition, Afghans are 14 times more likely than Germans to commit a sexual offense, while Syrians are 11 times more likely to commit violence than Germans.
German journalist Judith Sevinc Basad, in response to the crime figures, writes that “the latest new police crime statistics make it clear that the number of rapes has risen by 72 percent since 2018. Once again: 72 percent. Moreover, group rapes are no longer listed as a separate category of offense. Where is the public outcry with a call for demonstrations?”

Robbery and theft
Foreigners also commit 48 percent of all thefts and 48 percent of all robberies. In certain states, like North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany’s most populous state, the 2025 report specifically noted that foreigners committed 48 percent of robberies in the state despite making up 16 percent of the population, which means they are represented at three times their population share in this category.

Reporting black hole
Overall, crime is down 5.2 percent; however, a significant factor was the legalization of cannabis in April of 2024. This has led to a dramatic drop in drug-related arrests. Violent crimes also fell from a record high last year, falling 2.2 percent. However, upon closer look, particularly serious violent crimes are actually rising.
Murder and manslaughter cases increased by 6.5 percent, while rape and serious sexual assault increased a shocking 8.5 percent. Meanwhile, sexual abuse of children also continued to increase.
One of the points the Alternative for Germany (AfD) has brought up is that the German crime statistics are more and more irrelevant when it comes to understanding the true share of crime being committed by foreigners. The reason has to do with the mass naturalization of foreigners over the last few decades, including the accelerated number of Syrians and other Middle Easterners in recent years.
For example, authorities estimate that up to 75 percent of the clan crime members of Berlin have German citizenship. This highly active criminal group commits numerous serious crimes every year; yet whenever they commit a crime, it is simply listed as “German” in the crime statistics, with no reference to their migration background.
The AfD has advocated a separate category of reporting to indicate the migration background of suspects in order to better understand whether these groups are properly integrating into German society.
Some states have already made an effort to more transparently report on this issue, including North Rhine-Westphalia, which announced it would publish the foreign citizenship of all individuals with dual citizenship. This figure includes millions of people across Germany. However, this reporting standard has not made its way to the federal level.
Approximately 30 percent of the German population has a migration background.
Foreign youth crime
There have been arguments that the problem is not foreigners, but the problem is that foreigners tend to be young males, who are likelier to turn to crime. This, however, does not explain the high rates of crime from foreigners. As Welt notes, “among male adolescents, the TVBZ of non-Germans is 13,811, and among German comparators it is 6,118. The gap also remains large for male adolescents: 12,297 to 5,762.”
In other words, when comparing males of the same age, it is apparent that foreigners are vastly overrepresented in violent crimes. Furthermore, many of the male youths charged as Germans have a foreign background, but as noted, it is difficult to ascertain exact figures.
Researcher notes foreign crime is a generational problem
Forensic psychiatrist Frank Urbaniok wrote an entire book on crime involving foreigners, where he noted that immigrants from certain countries are characterized by “violent notions of masculinity.”
However, this tendency does not disappear just because someone’s family has been in the country for generations. Urbaniok, a professor at universities in Zurich and Konstanz, writes that this imprint can often still be observed in the second or third generation. Urbaniok notes the overrepresentation of foreign suspects is due to their “culture-specific character.”

This finding is actually supported by the new PKS report, which also touches on the “sociocultural” dimension. In certain cohorts of young men from patriarchal societies, the “threshold for violence” regarding perceived insults or “honor” is lower, writes the BKA.
Urbaniok notes that the use of violence is socially legitimate in certain countries and is associated with masculinity and strength.
As Focus Magazine notes: “In his comprehensive study, Urbaniok has shown that immigrants from Eastern Europe, Arab and African states are significantly overrepresented compared to German suspects.”

The data is also clear that poverty is not the overall major factor.
Urbaniok pointed out that “among Algerians, Tunisians, Libyans, and Egyptians, for example, 19 percent were considered socially weak, the same number as among Vietnamese. With one difference: the crime rate among Vietnamese is two percent, while that of the other group is 23 percent.”
So, two groups with equal levels of poverty, both with an immigration background, yet the Vietnamese are far more peaceful than groups from Africa and the Middle East.
