A video of a German woman describing a “certain clientele” who she says has ruined German swimming pools has gone viral. In the video, she speaks of her childhood memories of a time when swimming pools were carefree and peaceful. Now, she says she fears for her own personal safety and her belongings.

In the video, she describes going to the Kombibad Gropiusstadt in the multicultural Berlin neighborhood in Neukölln after many years of refusing to go back and how this turned into a mistake.

“I was just at a public swimming pool in Berlin with my son, specifically the Gropiusstadt outdoor pool— some of you might know it. In my childhood, it was such a beautiful swimming pool. I used to love going there, and the older I got, the worse it became. Today was actually my very first time back there in probably, let’s say, about six years..I only went today for my son’s sake because he really wanted to go there today,” she said.

“Yeah, today just confirmed for me once again why I stopped going there. The clientele there is just awful. It’s bad, and especially as a woman, it’s a disaster. I just sat on my blanket with my clothes on, because you don’t even want to take off your clothes into a bikini there, sunbathe, or go into the water.”

Although she does not specifically describe the “clientele,” Neukölln is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Germany. Furthermore, the specific swimming pool she describes, Kombibad Gropiusstadt, has had problems with foreign youth for years, including a major brawl caught on video. The situation in Berlin, in general, has been one of violence and sexual assaults for years. A heavy police presence is now common in the city’s most problematic swimming pools.

More importantly, the data shows that foreigners are overwhelmingly those most responsible for the chaos and feelings of insecurity in German swimming pools.

In the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, 65 percent of sexual assault suspects in swimming pools were foreigners.

In Germany overall, 64.6 percent of identified suspects in sexual assaults at swimming pools and bathing areas in 2024 were non-German citizens, according to the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) data for 2024.

The German woman also notes that it is becoming increasingly crowded at the swimming pools in the country, which is a major challenge to the feelings of security and peace that were once present even in cities like Berlin. Due to mass immigration, Germany’s population is soaring year after year, with public spaces burdened and swimming pools becoming overcrowded. At the same time, Germans are fast becoming a minority in their own country.

“As with all swimming pools in Germany It is so insanely overcrowded. I mean, we went early, so it wasn’t overcrowded yet, but at some point, it got so packed. And you’re also just afraid to leave your things behind on the blanket, because it’s completely normal now that you have to worry about everything getting stolen. It’s just sad. It’s sad that this is Berlin, and that it’s generally like this in Germany now,” she stated.

Her comments come after a series of security incidents in Germany in the last week, including an Afghan suspect who sexually assaulted four underage girls.

A girl was also allegedly raped at a swimming pool in Aachen last week.

Other women have also complained about the conditions in German swimming pools over the years.
