Following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk should resign, according to Law and Justice (PiS) MP and parliamentary group leader Mariusz Błaszczak. While the left-liberal government criticized the MP, there were also politicians from the right-wing Confederation who also rejected Błaszczak’s demand.
On a televised appearance on Polsat News, Mariusz Błaszczak said that “it is in Poland’s interest to have relations with the U.S. as close as possible. I am concerned that the current government, Donald Tusk and his team, have chosen Kamala Harris, so after Donald Trump’s victory, Donald Tusk should resign.”
According to the PiS politician, it is in Poland’s interest for Donald Trump to win because “we have very good experience” from the time when he was the U.S. president.
The PiS MP also commented on the attacks on Donald Trump from the Polish government.
“Radosław Sikorski’s wife, Anne Applebaum, is very brutal in her attacks on Trump. On the other hand, I interpret Donald Tusk’s posts as servility towards Germans,” he commented.
“We are indeed in close relations with the Republican Party. We are a conservative party, so we are closer to the Republicans than to the Democrats,” he said.
“Donald Trump also strongly supported our undertaking, which was closely coordinated by President Andrzej Duda, concerning the Three Seas Initiative, i.e., cooperation between countries in our part of Europe,” he added.
He went on to say that the U.S. guarantees our country’s security and is responsible for Poland’s supply of modern weapons.
Storm after Błaszczak’s words
The ruling government reacted harshly to the claim Tusk should resign.
“Mariusz Błaszczak believes that it is not Polish voters who will decide who exercises power in Poland, but the results of the elections in the USA. Mentality straight from the Polish People’s Republic,” said the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Tomasz Siemoniak.
“These words reek of betrayal… Błaszczak wants to change the government of the Republic of Poland after elections in another country. Scandal!” wrote the deputy speaker of the Sejm Monika Wielichowska.
“Błaszczak said something stupid and exposed himself to mockery that can kill. But no, they decided to blab about treason and working for foreign governments. Also, appoint a commission of inquiry,” commented Marek Wróbel, president of the Republican Foundation.
“Oh great, Błaszczak admitted that it is the Americans who decide who governs in Poland. Thank you for your honesty,” wrote Andrzej Zapałowski, a member of parliament for the Confederation, on the portal.
