On his Jan.27 podcast with journalist Matt Taibbi, Tucker Carlson accused the Biden administration of attempting to assassinate Putin, pointing a finger specifically at Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was “pushing so hard for a real war” between the two superpowers as his term neared its end, essentially using “chaos as a screen” to try to prevent exposure of illicit activities under Biden.
“I think that’s one of the reasons Tony Blinken was pushing so hard for a real war, trying to kill Putin, for example, which the Biden administration did, they tried to kill Putin,” Tucker says (46:50)
“Really?” asks Taibbi. “Yes, yes, they did, which is insane,” Tucker responds.
However, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov says the Kremlin has no idea what Tucker Carlson was talking about and called his statement “unfounded,” according to Interfax.
“It is better not to listen to unfounded information, regardless of who it comes from,” Peskov said, adding that much care should be taken when assessing such claims.
Nevertheless, Vyacheslav Volodin, chairman of the State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament), told the TASS news agency that “Russian society needs to understand the level of challenges and threats we face.”
“A plot to assassinate Putin, mere discussions of it, is a crime, a serious threat to global security, a direct path to nuclear war. All international institutions should view it as a basis for an investigation,” the Duma chairman wrote on Telegram.
