In France, the Essonne Assize Court sentenced Mamadou C., a 34-year-old man, to 16 years in prison for the rape and assault of a Chinese woman, who was working as a prostitute, in Paris in 2021. He had been previously convicted in 2014 for similar offenses against four other women. The prosecution described him as a “predator.”

In August 2021, Mamadou C. was living a “very isolated” life, according to French newspaper Le Parisien. The man’s family had remained in Mali. Homeless and without family or friends, he worked as a dishwasher and frequented prostitutes monthly. On Aug. 9, he met Y., a 44-year-old Chinese prostitute, near the Château-Rouge metro station in Paris, where they agreed to a sexual encounter for €20.

According to Y.’s testimony, the first sexual act was protected with a condom. “It was after he ejaculated that he wanted a second act without a condom,” she stated.

When she refused, Mamadou C. became violent, demanding, “Give me your pussy! Give me your pussy!” He then inserted his fingers into her vagina, beat her, bit her arm, and hit her with a glass. Y. recounted, “I told him to stop, but he kept saying, ‘I’m a good boy.'”

She screamed during the encounter, alerting neighbors who called the police, leading to his arrest.

This violent behavior was not an isolated incident. Mamadou C. had a history of similar attacks. In his previous trial, he was convicted of raping four Chinese prostitutes, all of whom he attacked after they refused a second unprotected sexual encounter.

The violence included punches and, in some cases, blows with a frying pan. The prosecution noted that the “evidence suggests predation, with a particular target: prostitutes of Chinese origin.”

Mamadou C. has consistently denied the rapes. In reference to Y.’s accusations, he said, “If I touched her, it wasn’t intentional. Why is she accusing me? I don’t know, maybe for financial reasons. She got €20,000 (in the first instance), she’s happy.”

A psychological expert who evaluated him identified “an addiction to sexuality, with Mamadou C. hypothetically able to find affection and a sense of existence in sexual intercourse.”

The expert noted that his life revolved around sex, as evidenced by photos of his erect penis next to piles of money that he sent to “women he found online.” Despite these behavioral patterns, no psychiatric disorders were noted.

When asked about the common nationality of his victims, Mamadou C. responded, “I don’t know, I don’t understand. The others (foreign prostitutes) never complained.”

His lawyers, Mr. Berrebi-Amsellem and Mr. Romain Ruiz, argued that their client was “declared guilty because he has already been convicted.” The court did not agree with this position.

Y., who did not attend the second trial “to avoid reliving the trauma,” is now rebuilding her life away from Paris. Given his history, the public prosecutor questioned, “What will happen when he gets out?” After serving his sentence, Mamadou C. will be subject to five years of socio-judicial monitoring and compulsory treatment. This is the same condition that was ordered in 2014, “with the consequences we all know.”
