The mother of a 5-year-old boy, who died in April after ingesting cocaine that belonged to her Egyptian boyfriend, was sentenced this Thursday, Dec. 4. Just the day before, the 23-year-old woman was arrested for smuggling drugs into Saint-Brieuc prison to her Egyptian partner, the same man who was held found responsible for killing her child months before.
The court determined that she passed cocaine to her 20-year-old partner in the visiting room of the prison, where he was imprisoned after her 5-year-old son ingested cocaine he had brought into the house. The boy died on April 2, and her Egyptian partner was found guilty of manslaughter in the case.
The woman was arrested on Dec. 3 and sentenced the next day to 10 months of prison for smuggling in 30 grams of cocaine. She is also prohibited from contacting her partner, according to French news outlet Ouest France.
Regarding this case, the Egyptian man claimed that he asked his partner for baking yeast, and that he did not ask her to bring cocaine to the prison. Essentially, he tried to throw her under bus in this latest case.
Autopsy confirmed her son died from ingesting cocaine
During the first trial for manslaughter on May 19, 2025, the Egyptian man said that the drugs had not belonged to him and that he had found them on the street. He placed the cocaine inside his cupboard, which was within reach of the young boy.
The boy ingested the cocaine and was transported to the intensive care unit of the Rennes University Hospital, where the boy spent several days. However, doctors were unable to save his life. An autopsy confirmed the boy died due to cocaine ingestion overdose.
The convicted Egyptian had denied that he ever used drugs. However, investigators examined the man’s hair after the boy died, and found that he was a regular cocaine user.
He was found guilty and is serving a four-year prison sentence.
