Barbara, a 24-year-old Frenchwoman, was found strangled to death inside her home earlier in December, but now her killer has been arrested in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He is known to the police for other crimes.

Fouad, the main suspect in the murder case, was born in 1990 and has a litany of offenses on his record, including theft, violence, and drug-related crimes, according to police sources. He was taken into custody after a Europe-wide arrest warrant was issued by the Avignon prosecutor’s office, according to La Provence. He is expected to be extradited back to France in the coming weeks.

The woman’s body was discovered naked with blows to the face and a dislocated finger. There were drugs found in her system and she is believed to have taken them with a number of people inside her apartment shortly before her death.

Fouad is being investigated for acts of torture and barbarity committed by an organized gang, with the investigations being ran by the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS).

“She was a joyful, smiling woman, full of life, who loved her family very much. She was beautiful,” Hannelone, Barbara’s older sister told Le Figaro.

“What happened to her is atrocious. These facts are unforgivable. We are angry about this violence. Who has the right to take the life of someone, such a pretty 24-year-old woman who had her whole life ahead of her?” Hannelone asked as tears streamed down her face

The victim, whose nickname was Erika, had been living in the Balance district in northern Avignon for just a few months. She was unemployed at the time of her death but had a passion for dance, music and foreign languages, and spoke English and Russian.

If the allegations against Fouad prove true, it will be another young woman lost to a foreigner or someone with a foreign background. Numerous cases targeting French women in recent years.

There was of course 12-year-old Lola of Paris, who was raped, tortured, and murdered by an Algerian migrant and stuffed inside a briefcase. However, other cases are equally harrowing.

Dubbed “the monster of Cherbourg” by French conservative activist Damien Rieu, Oumar Nidaye allegedly broke into his victim’s home, 29-year-old Mégane, before subjecting the young woman to multiple counts of rape, which included the use of a 29-inch broomstick to penetrate her and inflict life-threatening injuries.

In a case just from last year, 19-year-old Philippine was murdered by a Moroccan migrant. She was in her third year of economics and financial engineering at the prestigious Paris-Dauphine University, and was passionate about Latin, literature, pottery and theater,

Philippine also held a deep commitment to Christian values and was educated at a private Catholic school.

“Always ready to put herself at the service of others. She also wondered: How do I share simplicity? How do we build fraternity? How do we help the youngest to move forward?” said one of her former scout group leaders.

“You were perfect, as your two beloved sisters used to say,” said a family member at her funeral.
