French pharmaceutical company Sanofi will create 500 new, high-value-added jobs in Budapest, according to an announcement from the company.

Those jobs come on top of the 1,700 jobs already in operation at Sanofi’s international service center in Budapest, writes István Joó, who serves as the government commissioner responsible for investment promotion in Hungary’s foreign ministry.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó lauded Sanofi’s decision to expand its Budapest center. He said the center will now play a significant role in clinical trials, automation, and data analysis, as well as financial, customer service, and human resources management issues.

Hungary’s foreign minister also said a number of international companies are expanding their service centers in Hungary, which is positive for job development.

“This is largely due to the fact that companies already operating in Hungary are also bringing their service functions here, building on the positive experience they have gained in manufacturing,” he said.

The Sanofi Budapest Hub provides services to the company’s subsidiaries globally in 14 languages and is a key player in the company’s AI-powered transformation, according to a report from Hungarian news outlet Mandiner.

According to a report from MTI, Szijjártó stated that over the past 10 years, the government has disbursed 20 billion forints (approximately €51 million) to support 116 such investments, which have created more than 22,000 new jobs.

These jobs tend to attract highly educated staff who tend to be well paid.

Sanofi is one of the most important players in the French economic presence in Hungary, representing a decisive weight with its industrial and research and development activities.

The Hungarian foreign minister also highlighted the strong connection between Hungary and France, noting that French companies form the fifth-largest investor community in Hungary. The Hungarian government has supported the investment of 60 French companies over the past 10 years, amounting to approximately 430 billion forints, which equates to €1.1 billion.
