An asylum seeker from Syria, a 23-year-old known to the police, allegedly attempted to rape a 15-year-old girl during a horrific act at night on an ICE night train on April 22 at 1:00 a.m.
The teenager resisted and managed to escape the train toilet, only for the perpetrator to follow her and attack her again in the gangway.
A brave traveler and fellow passengers raised the alarm, alerting the train crew of ICE 921, who rushed to help.
A police spokesman confirmed that, “according to an initial assessment by the Dortmund public prosecutor’s office, there is initial suspicion of sexual harassment in connection with bodily harm.“
The suspect, identified as Bashar A., reportedly lives in the Netherlands but maintains a long criminal record in Germany, including for sexual offenses, according to Bild newspaper.
The police confirmed his criminal history, stating, “The man is known for similar offenses.“
His record also reportedly includes aggravated robbery and violations of gun laws.
Despite the nature of the attack, a police spokesman noted, “Initial findings indicate a relationship between the suspect and the 15-year-old.“
Railway employees managed to restrain Bashar A. until the train reached Dortmund main station, where the Federal Police took him into custody. However, the suspect is now free again.
Explaining the release, a police spokesman stated, “The special requirements for pre-trial detention were not met.“
This indicates that a judge apparently did not find a sufficient risk of escape or repetition to justify continued detention.
Alternative for Germany (AfD) politician Martin Hess wrote about the incident on X, stating: “In an ICE train to Dortmund, a 23-year-old Syrian is said to have attempted to rape a 15-year-old girl in the train toilet…The judge apparently saw no risk of flight or repetition.”
He then stated that a “real change can only come with the AfD.”
As Remix News reported in 2024, there are now approximately 90 violent crimes per day in German trains and train stations. Foreigners commit 59 percent of all sexual violence crimes on German trains and in train stations.
