The Hungarian Armed Forces officially received the first batch of small firearms assembled in the country under Czech license at a ceremony in a Budapest barracks.
The first batch of 10,000 weapons – P-07 and P-09 pistols, CZ 806 Bren 2 assault rifles and Scorpion carbines under license from arms manufacturer Česká zbrojovka – have been assembled in-country by state-owned arms manufacturer HM Arzenál Zrt.
Defense Minister Tibor Benkő said that all the firearms meet stringent NATO requirements and while this first batch has only been assembled in-country, soon the manufacturer will receive complete production lines from the Czech partner and full domestic manufacture will begin.
Benkő also said that Hungary already took delivery of its first new airplanes within the Zrínyi 2016 armed forces development program (Airbus A319 transport planes) and next it will also receive new helicopters.
Foreign Minister Péter Szíjjártó – during a visit to France – announced on Tuesday that Hungary had ordered 20 Airbus H145MS light attach helicopters.
