Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attacked Hungary again based on a consultation conducted by opposition leader Péter Magyar and his party, Tisza. Zelensky is now claiming that a majority of Hungarians support Ukraine’s EU accession, despite the Orbán-led government’s clear opposition.

“The Manfred Weber-Volodymyr Zelensky-Péter Magyar trio has formed,” writes Origo, referring to the high stakes ahead of the 2026 elections in Hungary and Magyar allying with Brussels to oust Fidesz from power.

Meanwhile, at the plenary session of the European Parliament, where MEPs voted on the discharge for the implementation of the 2023 EU budget, Tisza MEP Kinga Kollár spoke on the topic of data protection, claiming that Hungarian citizens’ data is not safe. She said this was tied to the new assembly law passed by the Hungarian legislature that implements various facial recognition systems.

She emphasized that although the Hungarian Ombudsman launched an investigation into this matter, according to Kollár, nothing came of it because they are not independent of the government.

The MEP described this as unacceptable, saying at one point that “everyone is in danger,” according to Mandiner

Péter Magyar did not take a position on the amendment of the assembly law, but Kinga Kollár’s speech indicated that if Tisza is elected they will restore the right to assemble for Pride.

Kollár is best known for her previous speech in which she congratulated the EU’s withholding of funds from Hungary and stated how that had helped her party since Hungarians’ quality of life had deteriorated as a result.

Kristóf Gergely Gulyás, Fidesz-KDNP’s representative in Budapest, has initiated a conflict of interest procedure against Kollár. According to Gulyás, “This is no longer a matter of opinion. This is a legal proceeding.”

“The law clearly states that a local government representative may not engage in any activity that could undermine the public trust necessary for the performance of his or her duties. In the event of such activity, the conflict of interest procedure must be conducted immediately. This is what is happening now. And we will be there to ensure that Kollár’s words are not misrepresented and that there are consequences,” Mandiner reports the politician as saying.

Péter Magyar is also facing a third request for the stripping of his immunity as an MEP by not the Hungarian prosecutor’s office, but the Pest Central District Court based on a complaint from the political party Mi Hazánk regarding a “private prosecution case, Index reports. It is unclear if this is related to alleged insider trading, a phone theft from a clash he had at a club last year, or other case.
