In the case in Hungary, Dr. Zsófia A. Szabó, a transgender pharmacist, took to the media to express outrage over the arrest of two doctors who performed illegal gender reassignment surgeries.

The article published on 444.hu, entitled “The government is making the lives of transgender people even more miserable, hoping for political gain,” attacked the government for seeking “to deprive a group of citizens of their rights, to take away the possibility of treatments necessary for human life.”

Kecskemét District Court arrested two doctors from Kiskunhalas who performed gender reassignment surgeries at the hospital outside of their working hours, reports 24.hu. Sources told the portal that one of the doctors undertook several surgical operations, treatments, and other examinations in his private practice from 2022. He charged patients between HUF 600,000 and HUF 1 million ($2,500) for the operations. In other words, they used state medical facilities illegally.

However, Dr. Szabó says, “We shouldn’t be looking for ways to make the lives of those few thousand transgender people even more miserable,” accusing the government of looking to make political points, especially in the wake of Donald Trump’s win over in the U.S.

The OGYÉI (National Institute of Pharmacy and Food Safety) and other authorities ensure that hormone treatments and surgeries do not become easily available in procedures whose long-term consequences are questionable, as stated by Mandiner. The Hungarian government has strict healthcare regulations that hold doctors accountable. No one is exempt, especially special interest groups, foreign activists, and NGOs.

The Hungarian government has made it clear that, unlike in the West, it prioritizes the protection of traditional, Christian-national values, will not ignore biological reality nor the butchering of children, and rejects such interventions.

No children were reportedly subject to any form of treatment in the case of these two doctors. However, the case demonstrates the government’s commitment to respecting biological sex for the stability of society, that it will take action against illegal activities, and that it will not allow the rise of gender ideology to undermine traditional family and social values.

Currently, Budapest is still being blocked from more than €6 billion of EU funds owed to it, as Brussels contends the country has not complied with reforms needed regarding rule-of-law concerns. One central issue is Hungary’s passage of child protection laws meant to keep sex education and LGBT ideologies out of primary schools.
