In the premiere New Year´s speech from the second highest constitutional official, Kubera called on the citizens of the Czech Republic to treat others as they would like to be treated themselves. He added that decency is not a weakness. The President of the Senate believes that the state often tries to control its citizens too much and restricts them by regulations such as banning smoking in restaurants.
Kubera also criticized the new EU privacy rules (GDPR) or the trend of erasing the differences between men and women. A man, a woman, and family in a broader sense, according to Kubera, “are above all like Mount Everest is.” The speech was broadcast by all the Czech public service media.
At the same time, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Radek Vondráček (ANO) praised the good Czech economic results in his speech, adding that the country owes its success to the millions of hard-working citizens, and also warning against the freedom of speech being misused to attack other people.
