The young Arab men who sexually assaulted women on New Year’s Eve in front of Milan Cathedral want to promote Muslim supremacy, Dounia Ettaib, president of the Association of Arab Women in Italy, told the daily Libero on Sunday.
Her comments come in the wake of this past New Year’s celebrations in Milan, which saw eight women, according to the prosecutor’s office, attacked; with three filing official complaints so far.
Three Belgian, one English, one South American and three Italian women were surrounded by men identified as North African. Dozens of attackers isolated the women, restrained them, and molested them. One of the Belgian girls even took to social media to speak out about the assault.

— Remix News & Views (@RMXnews) January 6, 2025Ettaib, who is of Moroccan origin, explained to the paper that Muslims “feel superior because they are Muslims, so they target women of other religions. And it is no coincidence that such violence occurs on New Year’s Eve, as if to say, ‘You celebrated, but we prove that we are stronger.’”
Ettaib was previously a member of the Italian parliament’s committee responsible for dialogue with Islam, and last year she participated in the development of the migration and security law package of the government led by Giorgia Meloni, according to Magyar Nemzet.
“It’s more than just gang violence. In the case of gang violence, the surrounding of victims reflects the perpetrators’ belonging to the same community, which is none other than the Muslim community,” she said.
Proper education and legislation, including the expulsion of violent immigrants from Italy after serving prison sentences, are required, Ettaib further said. She also pointed out that minors and young people who arrive in the country unaccompanied by an adult are released from the state institutions caring for them after turning 18 and continue to reside in Italian cities “completely free.”
“If they are not studying or working, they should be immediately returned to their countries of origin,” she said.
The same large groups of migrant are present in Milan every year, and this year they filmed themselves saying, "F**k the police."

— Remix News & Views (@RMXnews) January 6, 2025Silvia Sardone, a member of the European Parliament for the right-wing ruling League party, told the daily Il Giornale on Sunday that “with each passing day, the violence against women, which is happening for the second time in Milan, is becoming more widespread and dramatic.” She pointed to a similar attack on New Year’s Eve 2022, in which the perpetrators were sentenced to six years in prison.
Sardone believed that the silence of the left-wing mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, was a slap in the face to the victims.
He noted that the secretary general of the left-wing Democratic Party (PD), Elly Schlein, who often speaks out against patriarchy, has also not commented, meaning that she is actually “falsely claiming to protect women.”
Silvia Sardone told Arab men living in Italy on a television show that they are in a country where it is not the husband or other male members of the family who decide when a woman can go out on the street.
“In Italy, every woman has the right to be on city streets of cities without being threatened with violence,” the League politician declared.
