Tensions are boiling over between the Law and Justice party (PiS) and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, after the latter established the Rozwój Plus Association. According to Professor Adam Wielomski, “the disintegration of the Polish neoconservative-Zionist right wing is imminent.”

PiS leadership issued an ultimatum to members of the Rozwój Plus Association, reports Do Rzeczy. emphasizing that membership in other political entities is prohibited by the party’s statute. Rafał Bochenek announced that anyone who fails to resign from Mateusz Morawiecki’s association will face disciplinary action.

The party’s spokesperson also announced that the leadership has a compromise offer on the table for the MPs who joined the association.

However, Morawiecki has again reiterated that his initiative was not aimed at PiS and was not intended to cause a split.

The internal situation within the Law and Justice party has been widely commented on in the media in recent days. Political scientist and commentator Professor Adam Wielomski believes that Morawiecki is, in fact, making the matter perfectly clear. Meanwhile, Chairman Kaczyński rightly assumes that the potential coalition partner after Tusk’s team is removed from power, the Confederation, will certainly not agree to Morawiecki’s ambitious aspirations. Therefore, in his opinion, the situation is indeed heading towards a split.

Earlier today, Morawiecki took to X to insist his actions are only meant to strengthen PiS. “I want us to be a nightmare for Donald Tusk’s government, and for all voters – a real, broad alternative,” he wrote.

“Poland needs a broad camp that will win back voters,” the former prime minister and PiS vice president stated. “That is why the Rozwój Plus association was established. The entire association and its members can, of course, join the PiS expert council and contribute specifics to it: knowledge, experience, solutions. Today, we need credibility, rationality, and effectiveness.”

PiS MEP Michał Dworczyk attempted to calm the waters. “For the record: just yesterday, Mateusz Morawiecki and Przemysław Czarnek stood shoulder to shoulder next to Chairman Jarosław Kaczyński at a joint press conference. There was no rejection of a joint press conference or any other event,” he posted to X, adding, “more smiles, less tension.”
