Wednesday morning, Polish fighter jets were scrambled due to Russian attacks in the west of Ukraine, with Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command (DORSZ) posting about the incident on X:
“This is another very busy night for the entire air defense system in Poland due to the observed activity of long-range aviation of the Russian Federation carrying out strikes against objects located, among others, in the western territory of Ukraine,” the DORSZ wrote.
The post also warned of increased noise levels in Poland’s southeast due to the operation of both Polish and allied forces.
DORSZ said it was following all necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace and would continuously monitor the situation.
Bordering a war-torn country is no laughing matter for Poland, which has been in a constant state of alert since Russia’s aggression in early 2022. A missile that fell on Polish territory later that year, killing two Polish citizens, ended up being an out-of-control missile that had, in fact, been fired by Ukraine.
Just a few months ago, the U.K. announced it would send Typhoon jets to patrol Polish airspace. At that time, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also said Britain would send 16,000 troops to Poland.
