For the first time in a few years, the value of tax extortion in Poland has dropped, the Ministry of Finance has confirmed. According to data released by the newspaper, the revenue service detected 250,000 empty VAT invoices, amounting to PLN 57 billion. In 2016, there were 420,000 and their value stood at PLN 104 billion.
The report discussed documents produced by scammers and fraudsters to extort VAT returns from the revenue service or to discount fictional fiscal costs.
And there is still much to be done
According to the Ministry of Finance, the improvement this year occurred thanks to plugging the tax system.
What helped was, amongst others, overseeing companies through advanced analysis and risk evaluations as well as speedy crossing out of suspicious entrepreneurs from the tax-payer register by the revenue service.
Thanks to this, there are less scams and their traceability has increased. Despite the drop, experts believe there is still much to be done.
