Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk traveled to Ankara for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on how to achieve peace in Ukraine, as Zelensky digs in his heels and Putin makes a visit to Kursk to tell troops the region must be completely liberated from Ukraine as soon as possible.

During Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s visit to Ankara, the leaders discussed the future of European security and cooperation in the defense sector. Tusk’s visit coincided with Turkey’s announcements regarding the possibility of sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine. Erdogan also declared that Turkey could provide a place for peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.

“Our region has had enough of tears and war,” the Turkish president said, adding that his country was ready to provide all support to end the conflict.

“I have approached President Erdogan with a proposal for Turkey to take on the greatest possible co-responsibility for the peace process, guaranteeing stability and security in our entire region,” Tusk announced in Ankara.

Erdogan also emphasized the importance of Polish-Turkish cooperation in NATO.

“Turkey and Poland command the two largest land forces in NATO and Europe. We are key allies on the eastern and southern flanks of the alliance,” emphasized Erdogan, as cited by Poland’s Salon24

The Turkish president posted about the meeting on X, noting Turkey’s “deep-rooted history with Poland spanning over 6 centuries” and stressing their relationship as “allies and strategic partners.”He posted a video of their meeting as well, with the comment: “Strengthening our relations with Poland in a wide range of areas, from education and culture to science and tourism, is an important investment in the future of our friendship.”

The road ahead to peace seems like it will be a rocky one. Since the resumption of aid from the U.S., Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire, the U.S. will take strong action. “There will be strong steps against the Russian side. We are talking about sanctions and strengthening Ukraine,” he announced.

The Ukrainian leader stressed that his country would not agree to any territorial concessions. “We are defending our sovereignty and independence,” he added.

For his part, Putin went to a command center in the Kursk region, where he told Russian troops that they should completely liberate the region from Ukrainian troops as soon as possible, news agencies reported. The Russian President stressed that Russia would treat the soldiers captured in the region “as terrorists,” writes the Do Rzeczy news portal.
