Back in January, a French violinist was attacked in her sleep by an underage migrant. Since then, she says she is afraid to sleep in her own bed, French daily Le Parisien reports.
On the night of the attack, Emma put violin and cello down in her living room and hung out a bit before going to bed around 1:00 a.m., according to her account to the French newspaper. Since she was tired, she forgot to lock the two doors of her apartment.
It is around 5:00 a.m. when Emma was awoken from her sleep by vibrations on the floor of her bedroom upstairs in her house in Brétigny-sur-Orge in the suburbs of Paris. She heard footsteps and thought they were her cat’s. But when she opened her eyes, she came face-to-face with a young man.
She saw him right near her bed and realized he had a knife in his hand, which he immediately threatened her with.
“The point of the blade was pointed towards my stomach,” she continued. “It must have been six inches. I said to myself: ‘I’m going to die.'”
She was scared, pulled away, and began screaming. He then sprayed her with an “oily and greasy” product of unknown origin and fled the house.
“I got it in my right eye, it burned me,” she said, presenting pictures of the halo-shaped stains left on her quilt by the liquid.
“Even today, when I touch objects that have been in contact with this product, it burns me. That’s why I don’t sleep in my bed anymore,” Emma told Le Parisien. She would later find out that as he walked around, he had sprayed the entire mattress. A lighter, believed to be from the man, was later also found on the floor of the apartment. The man also took her violin.
Police later arrested a suspect in the case who turned out to be an unaccompanied migrant minor. In police custody, he allegedly explained that he entered this house “to eat yogurt and cakes”, but there is no evidence that he ever touched the refrigerator or ate any food.
