A Moroccan illegal migrant has been sentenced for sexually assaulting four children at the Chambly swimming pool in France. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, of which, five months were suspended.
On Dec. 8, the court found that the 30-year-old Rafik A. sexually assaulted the different children, aged 10 to 14, on two separate occasions over the summer.
The case came to light on Aug. 8 when three children, two young girls and one boy, alerted the pool’s receptionist that the suspect was sexually assaulting them.
“A man groped us in the pool,” complained the three children, who all described the Moroccan touching their private areas and slapping them. The young boy had tried to protect the two girls, at which time Rafik A. began slapping the boy because he wanted to be alone with the girls.
The employee told authorities that the three children seemed terrified when the suspect walked past them at reception and appeared to be waiting for them by the pool.
French police arrived on scene and arrested Rafik A., who they determined was in the country illegally.

Eventually, it also came to light during the police investigation that a similar incident occurred the day before, on Aug. 7. In that case, Rafik A. kept trying to approach different groups of children in the pool and asked them if they wanted to play with a ball he had. The game escalated quickly, with Rafik A. violently throwing balls at the children with extreme force.
Then, he jumped in the water and began touching and partaking in extreme physical contact with the children. One of the victims was identified by police.
Residents say they will now be more “vigilant” after the incident, highlighting how such incidents can radically change the sense of safety and security of locals.
“Knowing what happened, we’re even more careful with our grandchildren,” said a retiree to Le Parisien who frequents the pool.
“It’s the first time we’ve heard of anything like this,” said Marylène, another local resident.
In court, Rafik A. spoke through an interpreter, stating: “I didn’t do anything… It was they who asked me to play with them.”
The defendant’s lawyer stated: “I understand the children’s feelings, but he genuinely thought he was just playing, nothing more.” The Senlis court convicted the man, but since he has already been incarcerated since August, he could be free within the next five months.
Rafik A. is only banned from the actual swimming pool for a period of three years and he is also banned from French territory for 10 years.
Due to the fact that Rafik A. was already in prison since August, he has already served a large portion of his sentence, and could be eligible for release in just five months.
