Elon Musk, an ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, reacted with just two words to the Hungarian government’s new proposal to eliminate income tax for single mothers.
Musk himself is a father of many children, and has stated in several statements that he believes that population decline is the greatest challenge facing humanity, not the much-heard-about population explosion. That is why Elon Musk welcomed the Hungarian government’s family support measures, which he also shared on his X page.
As Remix News already reported last month, mothers with two or more children will be exempt from paying income tax for life.
Anna Nagy, head of Hungary’s Single-Parent Center, talked with Hungarian news outlet Magyar Nemzet about the new family policy measures, highlighting that the poverty rate is much higher among single parents. About 36 percent of them live in difficult financial circumstances, so these exemptions are a huge help.
Some 81 percent of single parents are women, Nagy revealed, adding that about 26 percent of single-parent families are raising two children and 8 percent are raising three or more children.
“If we look at it, we are talking about nearly 100,000 families affected by this measure, and accordingly the living conditions of more than 100,000 children could improve in the coming years,” she emphasized.
The effort is designed to reverse the demographic decline in Hungary, which is an issue that is affecting all of Europe at the moment, with record low births recorded in numerous countries across the bloc
