The movie has been nominated for Best Director, Best Cinematography and Foreign Language Film. The latter is the most prestigious for such a movie, which will be up against the likes of the Mexican flick “Roma” by Alfonso Cuaror, and Japan’s “Shoplifters”.
Ewa Puszczyńska of Opus Film said that the decisions of the Academy are “unpredictable”. “We cannot be driven by the success of “Ida””. “Ida” is a Polish film which won an Oscar for Foreign Language Film in 2015, also directed by Pawlikowski.

There is also an active promotional campaign for “Cold War”. “There was a joint concert in the USA, also promoting “Cold War”, by Marcin Masecki and Joasia [Kulig]. Joasia also performs at all sorts of cozy events in the US. Therefore, the music from “Cold War” is also used to promote it,” Puszczyńska said.
