Polish police have confirmed the capture of a 29-year-old Turkish national wanted in connection with a violent 2024 homicide of a bus driver during a robbery in the French city of Metz. The suspect, who was the subject of a European arrest warrant, was apprehended in the city of Lodz after more than a year on the run.

The charges against the man stem from a fatal robbery that took place on September 5, 2024. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a Cora supermarket in the Borny district of Metz, where a Bulgarian-registered tourist bus had stopped to allow passengers to dine, according to Polish news outlet RMF24.

Polish police also released a video of the man being taken into custody.

According to a press release from the Bydgoszcz police, the suspect, “on September 5, 2024, in the company of four other people and in a car with stolen license plates, took part in a robbery targeting a tourist bus.” Tragically, the confrontation turned deadly, as “the coach driver died” during the assault.

The suspect is facing charges for murder in France for his alleged role in the heist, among other crimes.

The Bydgoszcz police stated that he is being investigated for “a case of murder, armed robbery and participation in a criminal organization on French territory.”

The “end of run” for the suspect came this past Monday. Polish authorities reported that the man was “surprised” when officers moved in to take him into custody.

With the suspect now in Polish hands, the legal process to return him to the scene of the crime is underway. “The procedures for its handover to the French authorities… have been launched,” the official statement concluded.
