The Ukrainian military launched an attack using eight unmanned aerial vehicles on the Korenovskaya compressor station in the Krasnodar territory, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. The target of the attack was a key facility of the TurkStream gas pipeline, the operation of which Ukraine was trying to disrupt. Moscow says it was a deliberate attack on an international energy facility.
Late on the evening of April 8 and early the next day, Ukraine used eight drones to attempt to reach the Korenovskaya compressor station, which can pump 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year and plays a key role in the operation of the TurkStream pipeline. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, all the drones were shot down, so there was no damage to the facility.
Did Ukraine violate the agreement?
According to the Russian ministry, the drone attack was deliberately targeting international energy infrastructure.
“This was a deliberate attack by the Kiev regime on an international energy facility,” the statement says. According to Moscow, with the attack, Ukraine also violated the 30-day ceasefire agreement signed with Washington on March 18.
That same night, two other drones attempted to reach the Temryuk gas distribution station, but the structures were destroyed while still at a safe distance from the facility.
Since the 30-day ceasefire was launched on energy infrastructure, both sides have accused each other of violations.
Shortly after the ceasefire was launched, Russia launched 117 drones against Ukraine.
“Launching such large-scale attacks after ceasefire negotiations is a clear signal to the whole world that Moscow is not going to pursue real peace,” Zelensky wrote on social media at the time.
