As Brussels burns, politicians and commentators remain clueless

The EU capital has even sent direct messaging to migrants not to come to the overburdened capital but real action to counter issues on the ground is yet to be seen

Conditions reminiscent of Chicago in the 1920s have prevailed in the Belgian capital, with the population increase due to migration four times the natural increase in births in just one year, writes Hirado.hu.

Politico is blaming weak administration and a lack of proper leadership due to the city’s “labyrinthine political structure,” while failing to cite issues directly related to the surge in migration and corresponding migrant crime at all.

“Funding for social welfare centers, police and local authority work is shrouded in uncertainty. Public debt is piling up almost as quickly as the garbage bags on the dirty streets,” says the Brussels-based newspaper. They then quote centrist MP Christophe De Beukelaer, who said that the survival of Brussels as a city is at stake.

The article further revealed that Brussels is currently running a debt of more than €14 billion, a figure growing by €4 million a day.

French-speaking socialists are unwilling to govern with the Flemish nationalists, and the liberals of the Open VLD were unwilling to govern without the Flemish nationalists. Everything comes down to rival political groups, not rival migrant gangs.

Hirado spells out the slew of violent incidents that have been plaguing the EU capital: Gangs shooting at each other with Kalashnikovs at a Brussels metro station, rival Algerian and Moroccan drug gangsters battling for control of the narcotics trade, and North African and Afghan underage boys being forced to commit crimes.

The numbers show just how violent the capital is becoming, with 56 shootings and three deaths in 2022, 62 shootings and four deaths in 2023, and 92 shootings and nine deaths in 2024.

According to the Belgian Federal Police, the whole of Europe is being infiltrated by criminal organizations specializing in unaccompanied foreign minors. These unaccompanied children and adolescents are forced to steal or trade drugs once they arrive in Europe.

Data from a civil organization shows that 25,000 young people disappeared as soon as they crossed the European border, writes Hirado.

According to Child Focus, 322 unaccompanied minors have disappeared from the sight of Belgian authorities in Brussels in one year. The young people, who are usually forced into drug trafficking and prostitution, come from North Africa and Afghanistan, where they are allegedly lured in the hope of a better life.

On March 19, Belgium launched a digital campaign called Don’t Come Here!, aimed at discouraging asylum seekers from traveling to the country.

“In Belgium, childcare facilities are full, so don’t come here! Belgium is no longer Canaan flowing with milk and honey!” read the messages sent to migrants, which are being distributed particularly in Greece and Bulgaria to counter the problem, Le Figaro reported.

However, the ad campaigns appear to have done little to dent soaring immigration.

According to data from the Belgian newspaper Dhnet.be, the number of incoming migrants in Brussels in 2023 was four times the city’s natural population growth.

The population of Brussels increased by 5,404 people in one year in 2023 due to births, while in addition to this natural increase, the population of the Belgian capital increased by 21,443 residents due to net international migration.

The Hungarian portal notes how the Belgian Socialist Party even got Yassine Akki elected as a councillor in the crime-ridden Molenbeek district last year. Unfortunately, Akki’s past finally came to light: four years in prison for raping an underage teenager and committing a burglary. He gave up his post but has since filed a complaint against the leaker.

It is against such a backdrop that the role of mass immigration and left-wing parties is being questioned, knowing that in this case, the party must have known about their candidate’s crimes.

The Hungarian newspaper Hirado asks how many more articles will be written trying to find “clues” behind the rapid decline in Brussels and the spiraling debt and crime problems before they decide to face the real issue.
