The liberal Civic Platform MPs have recently filed complaints to the public prosecutor against the Central Bank (NBP) for its pursuit of an injunction on articles linking the bank to the controversy surrounding the Financial Supervisory Authority (KNF). This, together with criticism from government sources of the behavior of commercial TV station TVN over its program on “Hitler’s birthday” has been used as evidence that media freedom is under threat.
The criticism of TVN over its program having been a set-up nearly caused a diplomatic conflict between Poland and the USA, but the opposition feels that “the worse the better”.
The liberals want to create social conflict at any price in order to be on hand to save the country from the troubles they themselves have caused. They are like firemen who first commit arson
Both these instances were used by liberals to attack the current government. Of the two it was the issue of the supposed involvement of Poland’s central bank with the controversy that engulfed the KNF which was by far the more serious. By undermining what is regarded as one of Europe’s most stable institutions the whole banking system in Poland is being undermined.
Liberals seem to have learned nothing from the events in France where people have had enough of liberal rule and really have taken to the streets. Here in Poland the opposition has failed to get people out on the streets but it is not for the lack of trying. The liberals want to create social conflict at any price in order to be on hand to save the country from the troubles they themselves have caused. They are like firemen who first commit arson. But are they certain that they can put these fires out and will not be punished for having stoked them?
