Although PiS’s chairman and the PM have criticized Morawiecki senior over his pro-Russian views, he claims that they are wrong and that he is “broadening the electorate and opening people to the Russian question, which is very important.”
“Kaczyński is presenting me as a supporter of Putin and Russia. Meanwhile, I’ve always been seen as an anti-Russian and anti-Soviet politician,” says Kornel Morawiecki.
A Member of Parliament Kornel Morawiecki is adamant that an improvement of relations with Russia is necessary: “This is a vital interest for Poland, for peace, for justice, for all of Europe because it is the biggest country in the world – economically, diplomatically and culturally.”

Morawiecki agrees with the views of his son that Russia wants to turn Poland into its tributary, he argues, however, that it is “nothing new.”
He tried to shed light on the Russian annexation of Crimea as a dilemma in which the self-determination of the people clashed with the inviolability of borders. “The “green men” took over Crimea without a bullet fired, because Crimea wanted to be Russian,” says Morawiecki senior.
On the other hand, he claims that Russia’s invasion of Georgia in 2008 is “a much deeper issue.”
Morawiecki believes that he stands in defense of the truth and criticizes both Russian and Polish governments for inciting conflict between their two peoples. “It cannot be, that our media, our government and our elites are pitting our nation against the Russians and vice versa. I want to encourage Poles to a serious debate. Russia is a great nation, our neighbor,” he said.
