A cyclist was violently attacked, stabbed, and robbed by three individuals in the French city of Rennes on Monday evening, according to reports by Amaury Brelet of Valeurs Actuelles.
According to police sources, the attack unfolded in the city center when one of the assailants stabbed the cyclist in the abdomen while another suspect stole the victim’s bike. A witness who attempted to intervene was threatened with a weapon by the first perpetrator.
Emergency services treated the victim, who is expected to recover.
Police apprehended the suspects shortly after midnight on Boulevard de Verdun. The three individuals— Imane M., 18, Ben Yasser A., 20, and Ben Abderemane C., 21 — were charged with attempted murder, carrying a category D weapon, intentional violence with a weapon, and theft.
Police confirmed that Ben Yasser A. and Ben Abderemane C. were both born in Mamoudzou, Mayotte, an overseas department of France. All three suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
Authorities are expected to increase patrols in the area to provide reassurance to residents.
