An Afghan migrant has been indicted for the alleged rape of a disabled 15-year-old girl at a public swimming pool in the French city of Strasbourg in May, and the sexual assault of three females, including two 15-year-old girls.
The incidents occurred at several swimming pools across the city, with the most recent attacks taking place last Saturday, according to the Sud Ouest news outlet.
The 26-year-old suspect first approached a 15-year-old girl at the Lingolsheim public swimming pool back in May, the prosecution claimed. His victim was described by local media as “slightly disabled” without further detail.
The prosecution also alleges the Afghan national committed three further sexual assaults on two minors and a woman in her forties at an inner-city swimming pool earlier this month.
Immediately following the most recent allegations, one of the victims informed the on-duty lifeguard who immediately closed the pool and blocked the man from leaving the building.
The suspect, who was previously unknown to the authorities, was arrested at the scene by police and subsequently charged with “rape of a vulnerable person” and multiple sexual assaults.
The public prosecutor has requested he remain in pre-trial detention, due to the nature of the offenses and the risk of absconding, while the investigation continues.
