A 24-year-old man of Pakistani origin has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for the attempted rape of a 13-year-old boy in an Italian park in Campogalliano, in the province of Modena

The case dates back to the evening of July 8, 2023, when the teenage victim was in a public park in the town. According to the reconstruction of events, the suspect approached him and, after grabbing him by the wrists, attempted to rape the boy. The minor managed to free himself and flee, according to Gazzetta Dimodena.

The following morning, July 9, an Italian citizen filed a complaint at the Campogalliano Carabinieri station on behalf of the child. Investigators, working under the direction of the Modena Public Prosecutor’s Office, launched an immediate inquiry that gathered sufficient evidence to identify the suspect and attribute the crime to him. By Aug. 11, 2023, a preliminary investigations judge at the Modena court had ordered him placed under house arrest, a measure that remained in force until the conclusion of criminal proceedings, which ended in a final conviction.

On Feb. 28, Italian police from Campogalliano and Soliera stations carried out the prison order issued by the Attorney General’s Office at the Bologna Court of Appeal, sending the man to serve his sentence at Modena prison.

The Carabinieri described the operation as reflecting their ongoing commitment to protecting minors and combating serious crime under the coordination of the Modena Public Prosecutor’s Office.
